Located next to the Akron Civic Theatre on Main Street in downtown Akron, Lock 3 has hosted millions of visitors since its opening in 2003.
In 2001 Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic wanted to open up the canal towpath at Lock 3, and the city demolished dilapidated buildings along South Main Street. For the first time in a century, historic Lock 3 of the Ohio-Erie Canal was open to public view.
From May through September, Lock 3 features weekend concerts under the open skies, Akron's biggest festivals, a large number of community events and hosts the City of Akron's official 4th of July reworks display.
In the winter, experience the magic of Lock 3 in downtown Akron, with a host of attractions including Lock 3’s most popular feature, The Huntington Bank Ice Skating Rink. Head inside and enjoy Polar Putt-Putt, a 9-hole indoor course, along with arcade games and our Cub Rink, an indoor polymer surface ice rink for our younger skaters.
